This weekend I got to do what I love most as a "solopreneur", play! After ensuring my latest painting, Serling Curious, fit into an 18x24 frame I turned my attention towards sketching thumbnails of other paintings that would compliment 'Serling Curious'. Sometimes I will leverage my graphic design and digital art skill set and do thumbnails in photoshop. This allows me to play with color palettes and composition with ease without having to use an eraser.
'Curious Interlude' is the working title for my next collection and I'm excited about it. This will give me the opportunity to expand on my theme while still building atop the pillars of originality, truth, and perspective. I meant to send out a newsletter this weekend but got lost in my own creativity, so perhaps that'll deploy sometime in the middle of the week. With two artist grant applications successfully submitted along with an application for an artist residency, I'm staring the week off feeling productive. "Brick by brick" I tell my self after each task pertaining to my practice gets completed.
I had a good chat with Geoff from DSDI on Friday and I may be conducting a workshop or artist talk at their space in September. I'm not sure whether I want to talk about marketing for artists or creating an identity (branding). Since a college student I knew there was too much of an emphasis on making art but not selling or exhibiting it. Having had the opportunity of being a proposal coordinator and marketing specialist for past employers, I have been able to apply a lot of what I learned on the job to my own practice. It's been weighing on my conscious to share that with other creatives.
More to come on that soon!
